Gold Upgrade

How amazing this golden upgrade for @auroramaur_dances turned out even surprised me!

First, the front and inside feathers of this set (which were a dark mustard-topaz) were salvaged from a glued bamboo and fabric structure. Starting with a lot of little drabs and about a row’s worth of wing feathers, we sent them over to @fancyfeathercom for a wash, added a fresh top row of plumes and dyed the entire batch together in their vintage gold. I have no idea what dye wizardry was used, but the new color achieved on the salvaged feathers exceeded all of my expectations! The build for each fan uses 13 12″ staves with an accent stave on the front that is ready to be rhinestoned and really pop!

Drama Peacock

These stunners just arrived with @lily_datura_dancer!

Ah peacock… you’re as irresistibly beautiful as you are finicky to work with. The set features 26 12″ staves with double premium plumes from #RainbowFeathers and around 80 stem dyed peacock feathers from @thefeatherplace. The art gold nouveau front plate with cutouts really pops against the dark fluff. The drama of this set really makes it all worth it!

Lilac and mint

Still catching up, these beauties just made it to the lovely Jenna Beth!

Each fan uses 14 14″ staves, with two layers of 25″+ wide custom dyed lilac plumes from #RainbowFeathers and mint front layer from @thefeatherplace. Do they look massively grand and fluffy? Cause they totally are!

Costume sale

This was a personal costume of mine that I let go.

Bra is 34C with removable cups and S/M undies done by @canova_studio. Dress is vintage (no tags) like a size 4-6 adjustable and was professionally altered to have the swoop back by @abunchofsheep. There are hooks on the halter and that come over the bustle. The dress goes down but the bustle stays on its belt! The bustle frame is from master costumer @carnival.d. The fans are 24 24″ boa staves in saffron with 8ply 40″ boas from @fancyfeathercom built using my wrap technique.

Fuck Cancer

Inspired by a note from Lady Ginger (a survivor herself), fan art seemed appropriate for two special Chicago Burlesque performers — Hot Tawdry and Ramona Mourir — that have kicked cancer. As each fan the flame of their own resilience to give cancer the bird, they’ve also helped others facing similar diagnosis (as well as worryful family and friends) find strength.

Triple Hot Pink

Hope your mood today matches these fluffs done for La Luna Doll!

This set matches the Level Up 4 package at DonnaTouch.com/ostrich When going with a triple plume, the touch longer staves gives all the feathers more room to breath and play. Each fan uses 14 14″ staves with front and inside plumes sized 18-23″ and top row sized 24-27″ all from Fancy Feather in Hot Pink!

Lilac Art Nouveau

A perfect combination for LadyLily La Douce!

The art nouveau stave set really does pop so well with the colors she picked! The staves are in a new color called heavy black metallic (it’s a gloss black with silver flake) and the lilac feathers (they photographed way more purple, but they are a true lilac in real life) are from Fancy Feather.

Flirt conversion

Cutie flirty flirt conversion done for Sally Marvel.

She had enough small wing feathers — more durable and have the same feather texture as plumes, but are shorter with a more narrow shape — to do a double layer across 24 staves. Using the 8″, the set is pretty compact and dense. But this is a great set for small spaces, crowd work or just a flirty bit.

Peach boas

This peachy peach set flew across the ocean landing with Emme Hayward!

If you’ve followed my work for a while you might spot the difference with these. Rather than doing the regular one sided attachment, I added a twist around the boa. Since I’m stretching the boa as I wrap it, no length is lost! These are built on 24 24″ staves in freckled peach and use 40″ all ostrich boas hand made and dyed by Fancy Feather.

Boa fans are such a huge investment and performance commitment. But a good boa handler is a show stopper! My staves are the strongest, lightest and most durable for these types of fans, and while they are still hefty to wield, you’ll have an easier time and more fun doing it!

Deco pheasant

This deco inspired set was snagged quickly by Samson Night! Head to his profile for a fun picture that had to be taken minutes after they arrived.

The amazing front plate design was done by Katrina Monreal. In fireside copper, it’s backed with glitter vinyl. Three additional staves hold the 27-35″ lady am sidetails from @happinesscathy. The staves do collapse behind the front plate for easier transport.

Quadruple layer

Quadruple layer ultimate fluff just landed with Bryona Ashly!

Slightly smaller than her jumbo swan-like wings, Bryona is sure to hypnotize audiences with the dense darkness and subtle movement of this set. Each fan uses 14 14″ staves in satin black with 4 large and wide plumes from Rainbow Feathers

Chocolate Showboy

These dramatic beauties just arrived with Jonah | Chocolate Showboy in Paris!

As a feather negotiator, I listen to the requests, but have to talk it over with the feathers and then let the performer know if they’ll comply. This is true for dye colors, layering and structural elements. Thrilled with results of our negotiations for this set!

Built on my 8″ flute staves — the most compact option for pheasant for travel — across the 14 staves we’ve got 160 35″+ (in natural and color #89) with about 100 black sidetails from @happinesscathy.

Gold on gold

Done for Jezebelle Red

With feathers being a natural product, sometimes you have to listen to what they want to do. Originally planning for the 8″ flirt staves, these quills on these plumes were just too bulky. So I moved them up to the 12″ standard just mounting the top feather one position lower. This kept all the fluff, closer to the intended flirt size, but helps the fan open/close a bit more smoothly. The staves are gold bar and plumes are vintage gold from @fancyfeathercom.

Each fan features 12 12″ staves in satin black, 12 front layer drabs sized 16-19″ in black and 24 plumes sized 18-24″ with the top row gunmetal and the inside row lilac from Fancy Feather

Rich for Maggie

Full project done for Maggie McMuffin!

These deco inspired front plate handles by my design partner Katrina to bolt on and the full set of fans. Amazing design that can be dazzled up.

The fans are ivory double plumes from Fancy Feather with natural peacock from The Feather Place on my 8″ staves.

Pro tip! To get peacock to follow the curve of your fan, you need to lightening “curve” each, individual feather stem with a curling iron on low.

Heart ❤

This is an experimental fan that has been floating around the studio for a while to be completed. It seemed like a good one to finish last night to be able to send some love to a performer affected by the hurricane.

Each fan has 8 side staves and the front heart center plate (which the feathers are attached too) with double layer 18-24″ plumes from Fancy Feather. A smidge heavier than a regular set and obviously weighted in the center, but should still be light enough for some rhinestone work. The side feathers separate a little bit more than my regular stave sets, but create a really nice flutter.
