For a look at these in action, check out @lavendelleburlesque’s recent birthday performance video! These single layers still look fantastically fluffy. They are a great, economical option for groups, troupes and shows.
Sets match Flirt 2 in Antique on donnatouch.com/ostrichbasic.
This delicate color combo was the vision of @meg_mesmeric. It’s always fun to take the sketch into reality for these ombre sets!
Set matches Standard 4 – Specialty on DonnaTouch.com/ostrich. Remember, for specialty dyes, I avoid recreating custom patterns without asking the original performer for permission.
Sometimes mistakes make for the best fans! @alluraflame ordered a set of Blondie (the inner color), but I messed up my counts. With Wheat also in stock, I really loved the color combo and we went with the two tones (not usually available with my basic and bulk options). So *happy* accident turned sweet set!
It’s been a while since I did an ombre plume, but this malachite like set is ready for the stages of Poland with @lolitavavoom!
Set matches Standard 4 – Specialty on DonnaTouch.com.
If you dream in ombre, it’s important to first accept that feathers aren’t ever going to be as seamless as a gradient print or fabric dip. Feathers are natural products making them beautifully unpredictable. Look closely and you’ll notice every part of the feather picks up dye differently. While boas are dipped and soaked in dye at different points, the fluff and overlap helps to even out the sections. With plumes, there isn’t the same luxury! So every feather must be hand dipped, dipped again and dipped again (with multiple steps in between each dip) to achieve this ombre look. Layering then becomes important, overlapping the feathers in ways that even out the ombre and create the end effect. And yes… ombre does add a lot to the cost of a project, but considering the time and expertise needed to achieve an ombre on plumes, I’d say it’s a bargain!
This luxurious fluffy for @violettecoquette should make your deco loving heart sing! We had a fun workshop last night to reverse one fan (I somehow built two right-handed oye!), but a good reminder of why I love the simplicity of my builds.
Boas expertly dyed by @fancyfeathercom and on my aluminum staves. Set matches package Boa Large Dip Dye on DonnaTouch.com/ostrich
Oh but this set for @rubyspencerchi… these are truly what dreams are made of. Her vision was a nighttime sky. I think the ombre and twinkle of tinsel just in the darkest parts plays to this perfectly!
Boas expertly dyed by @fancyfeathercom and on my aluminum staves. Set matches package Boa Large Dip Dye (with upgrade for lurex added) on DonnaTouch.com/ostrich
This set flew up to @newfoundladto and @ritaanntique in Canada!
The set matches Standard 1 on DonnaTouch.com with fireside copper staves and plumes in the color Bone.
My FIRST ever fans used this color plumes. They were on aluminum siding I had hand cut with shears and drilled out. Every innovation has its wonky start! Those feathers have moved on to another performer’s fans, but it’s always a treat to use this color. It continues to be a favorite of mine. It’s a subtle nude that’s definitely going places.
@emmehayward will be pretty as a peacock with this new set!
We started with the Standard 3 package (donnatouch.com/ostrich) with royal blue feathers from @fancyfeathercom and added almost 100 stem dyed peacock feathers from @thefeatherplace. The colors are just stunning, don’t you agree?
I wasn’t surprised how fast this unique set sold from my stories. Even as quick as they go, they always seem to always find their right performer!
I coated the 20″ staves in copper for a rush order that then went a different direction. To salvage them, I asked @fancyfeathercom to do a copper ombre. Those colors are really difficult, so it was a good test. The result was this warm, lovely sepia stunner of a set! It’s a stress when projects fall through, but great when they inspire other cool things.
These fans for @bloodycrystalburlesque are oozing with drama! Black paired with a custom burgundy from @fancyfeathercom really is a winning fluffy combination.
Set of 2 fans each with 14 12″ staves, 14 front layer wings sized 18-20″, 14 plumes sized 18-24″ and 14 plumes sized 24-27″ in LILAC (feathers from @FancyFeathercom)
If you’ve been in touch with me about feathers in a particular color, you would’ve received “the talk.” When it comes to feathers, achieving a solid color is not possible. Feathers are naturally very reflective and toss a range of color no matter what.
This set (matches Boa Petite Solid on DonnaTouch.com/ostrich) done for @bellablueforever is @fancyfeathercom TEAL. As you can see, it’s the ultimate shape shifter!
Dark mysterious with a pop of color for @glampira_666!
I really like using the black to gunmetal as a gradient. And the dark colors really sets off the pop of violet on the inside. Feathers from @fancyfeathercom mounted on my 24 of my 12″ staves.
PLUM – this color is elusive for me to photograph. Much closer to the close up photo of the color.
I’m messing around again with packages, trying to get a boa set that is more budget friendly, but lush enough. These sets feature 24 20″ staves and 36″ 6 ply ostrich only boas from @fancyfeathercom. They came out quite nice, great size and density for quite a bit cheaper!
Set of 2 fans each with 12 12″ staves and 12 front layer wings sized 18-20″ and 24 plumes sized 18-24″ in LIME/EMERALD (feathers from @FancyFeathercom)
Set of 2 fans each with 12 12″ staves and 24 plumes sized 18-24″ in NAVY
NOTE – Feathers are shapeshifters when it comes to color as they are actually very reflective to light. These are appearing brighter in the photos, but are a very dark navy).
Set of 2 fans each with 12 12″ staves and 24 plumes sized 18-24″ in TEAL
NOTE – Feathers are shapeshifters when it comes to color as they are actually very reflective to light. These are appearing more blue in the photos, but have more of a green or true teal hue.
Fans as exciting as performer Angie Pontani! Designed to match her equally as bright costume, the boas were expertly dyed by Fancy Feather to be gold and have ombre beige tips. This new package option features 36″ 8 ply boas mounted on my 20″ staves. Although I call this package petite compared to the large sets, it’s still lush and sizable!
These pretty fluffs went out to a very newbie burlesquer. Standard size on the 12″ staves, this double layer uses light blue and white plumes from @fancyfeathercom. It’s a great size set that can be easily upgraded in the future if needed.
