This mondo set recently landed with @wintersinclair! Able to use it with or without the front plate layered on my handled V- staves. Can’t wait to see how the vintage flowers come to life with her painting and stoning. This set is max size, swish and lux look!
@valerieveils was actually an early adopter of my front plate idea on her ostrich fans. So you might recognize a bit of this motif, however this more structural, rather than purely decorative, plate is getting added onto her pheasant fans. These recently landed to her, so watch her page for when they hit the stage!
I’m not very good about posting my process, not because I’m secretive, I just rarely think to capture the work in flight! So here is a little look behind the curtain.
For this design, I worked with my partner @katrina.inprogress. Basically I draw her boxes of where my structural needs should land (in this case the handle sizes, stave coverage and max size) and she whips up two incredible sketches. Finalizing one, I @cricut test cut, do final zhuzhing and prep the file for cutting. I use a range of metal thicknesses and types depending on the application. This one obviously needed to be a bit denser to hold up as a handle, but without being too heavy. After it’s cut, it’s off to @coating.specialties_3311. Thankfully we aren’t still doing that in the garage here at home!
Doing custom isn’t a complicated process, but really relies on good design conversations and the partners I have that help bring these projects to life.
Fans are an expression on stage and these done for @chloethecocaine have significant meaning. Chloe started working on this concept with her mum, the last one before her passing.
I particularly love roses (my garden is full of them) because they seem to explode with all the beauty the world can make, but have thorns that can literally slice you open. They are the greatest metaphor for the lives we live. Happy to have been able to help create these in honor of someone so special to Chloe.
Chloe credits @missmaplerose and @frankiefictitious for their help and inspiration.
This piece took a team to create. @katrina.inprogress created the vector. @coating.specialties_3311 did the powder coating. @donna.touch made the vinyl templates, V-staves and assembly. @letterslinesanddesigns_jross laid down the incredible airbrush work.
Ready to tickle the keys with @jessicasunset? This upgraded set is a refresh for one of her signature acts.
Each fan uses 7 of my 3-prong staves with 5 18-24″ plumes from @fancyfeathercom. The plates were tricky, but thanks to @coating.specialties_3311 for enlisting the help of a pinstriper for the fine painted on detail!
Learning that @dirtymartininyc was on the @ditavonteese @glamonatrix_official tour, we took the opportunity to present her with some fan, fan art!
This handfan features custom dyed plumes from @fancyfeathercom, my 8″ staves and the martini plate that was encrusted by @boldburlesquepasties. The show was AMAZING and it was a treat to say thank Dirty Martini in person for all she is to burlesque!
Check out the sparkle insanity @kittykinevil completed on her custom front plates. There are two and they are huge! They’ll be added to her existing pheasant fans that she previously built on my staves. Awesome work on the custom design with stoning template by my design partner @katrina.inprogress.
Super unique and completely custom set for Faggedy Randy!
Executing on Faggedy’s booty vision wasn’t easy! The ombre plumes were custom dyed through an experimental process by the very talented Faye Havoc. They are layered on my 3-prong staves. The front plates are Faggedy’s design. For a comical act, these are a beautiful design!
I do wish I could capture the shape-shifting colors of this set better. What appears as a rich purple is actually a complex blue. Those are the feathers we started with from an existing set, added a top row of plumes in gun metal (@fancyfeathercom) and the spiderweb front plate. Such a unique combination that all works so perfectly together!
These stunners just arrived with @lily_datura_dancer!
Ah peacock… you’re as irresistibly beautiful as you are finicky to work with. The set features 26 12″ staves with double premium plumes from #RainbowFeathers and around 80 stem dyed peacock feathers from @thefeatherplace. The art gold nouveau front plate with cutouts really pops against the dark fluff. The drama of this set really makes it all worth it!
Custom front plates done for Cervena Fox’s pheasant!
When Cervena’s acrylic staves broke, we needed to get her back on stage with her fans quickly! You can check out the results of the conversion earlier in my feed. Then, we took some time to work with my creative Katrina Monreal design a piece inspired by Cervena’s multifaceted style. This plate set just bolts on and is ready to go!
A gem for the gem, Emerald Eve!Flirt size double layer with 26 8″ staves in Fir with two 18-24″ plumes in emerald green from Fancy Feather. I designed the gold bar “handle” that simply bolts on and off. Fans collapse as well.
This deco inspired set was snagged quickly by Samson Night! Head to his profile for a fun picture that had to be taken minutes after they arrived.
The amazing front plate design was done by Katrina Monreal. In fireside copper, it’s backed with glitter vinyl. Three additional staves hold the 27-35″ lady am sidetails from @happinesscathy. The staves do collapse behind the front plate for easier transport.
The design of the double layered stave structure was done by katrina Monreal. The plate and peekaboo staves can easily be rhinestoned. The set has 120 zebra 30-35″ from @happinesscathy.
How cool are these front plate handles? These were done as a followup for Sassy von Straddler to add onto her orange and pink conversion. The design was done by Katrina Monreal and finished in traffic orange.
Dasha Sweetwaters provided the sketch for the double sided Eros – the mischievous god of love, also known as Cupid – golden plates. The fluffy fan has 13 12″ staves in flag red, with a double layer of premium wide 25″ plumes in bright red from Rainbow Feathers.
Flirt size double layer with 26 8″ staves in satin black, two 18-24″ plumes in a dark green-teal custom and black from Rainbow Feathers. The front plate is a new “handle” that simply bolts on and off. Fans collapse as well.
This is the first embellishment project with Bold Burlesque Pasties!
This handle front plate (by my design partner Katrina) is for the flirt size fans only. Since it was not created for a performer, embellished or not, this design can be cut to order limited to 10 total sets. Currently 1/10.
You’re looking into future of stave design! A much sparklier version just hit the stage with Frankie Fictitious at Viva Las Vegas this past weekend!! She built them, so just like me, you have to live for the event photos and video clips.
Sure, I’ve done some cool designs before, but to take things further I started working with another creative. You’ll learn more about Katrina soon, but this first iconic set through production together was one heck of a kickoff. While I’ll always guide and manage the construction aspects, she’s layering in design flourish I’d never be able to achieve.
Thanks to Frankie for her trust in me for this project!
The set is on 24 12″ staves. The dark and light pinks were upcycled from another set and we added the top row of mint plumes from Fancy Feather. The front plates are a custom design and encrusted with Lux rhinestones in complimentary shades from Rhinestones Unlimited.
